Posted under Bar

1) First steps (a) Unpacking

Remove your Mac Book Pro from the box and place it on a firm surface near an electric socket. In the box, you should also have

 • an 85W MagSafe Power Adaptor
 • a power cord
 • a DVI to VGA adaptor

(b) Charging

Strip the plastic film from the 85W MagSafe Power Adaptor. Ensure the plug sits properly in the Power Adaptor and place it in the electric socket. Take the other end of the Power Adaptor lead and connect it to the magnetic MagSafe power port on the left-hand side of your MacBook Pro.

If the Power Adaptor lead won’t stretch to your nearest electric socket, remove the plug from the adaptor by pulling it up. Beneath the plug is a socket. Insert one end of the power cord into the adaptor socket and the other into the electric socket.

Please note: always disconnect your MacBook Pro from the electricity by pulling the plugs and not the leads.

An amber light on the MagSafe connector at the power port tells you the MacBook Pro battery is charging. When a green light appears, the battery is fully charged. If no light appears, check the connections and make sure you’ve switched on the electric socket.

(c) Basic features

When you open your MacBook Pro, you’ll find

 • an iSight camera and camera indicator light at the top of the screen

Switch on your MacBook Pro by pressing the power button. Setup Assistant will come up on the screen.

Setup Assistant takes you through the process of establishing your user account and your email and Internet details. If you have another Mac and want to carry files and applications from it to your MacBook Pro, Setup Assistant will show you how. If you want to transfer such information at a later date, use Migration Assistant instead.

 • Select the Applications folder
 • Open Utilities
 • Double-click Migration Assistant

If you have another Mac you don’t intend to use in the future, and you’ve bought music, audiobooks, films or TV shows with iTunes, de-authorise the computer. For more details, go to the iTunes Help menu and select iTunes Help.

4) Quick Mac OS X guide (a) Introduction

Your MacBook Pro has the Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard operating system. This controls your applications, files and peripheral devices, and works in a similar fashion to Windows.

(b) The basics

Your basic controls are the keyboard and trackpad. windows users find they have to use the keyboard and trackpad fewer times on the MacBook Pro to achieve comparable results.

(c) Main features

To help you manage and navigate everything successfully on your MacBook Pro, there are four main features:

 • Desktop
 • Dock
 • Finder
 • Menu bar

Desktop

Desktop is your starting point each time you use your MacBook Pro. It stores items such as files and images.

The first icon you’ll come across on Desktop is the Macintosh HD (hard drive). Other icons appear when you use the various functions of your MacBook Pro. To view an icon’s files and applications, double-click it.

Also note that

 • if you connect a device to your MacBook Pro, an icon appears on the Desktop
 • if you allow other users on your MacBook Pro, each one can have a Desktop

 • when you run applications, Desktop always lies behind them

Dock

The Dock is a row of icons lying at the bottom of your MacBook Pro screen. Click on an icon to reach the files and applications it contains.

When a window appears on the screen, it has three buttons in the top left corner.

 • The red button closes the window
 • The yellow button minimises the window to the Dock
 • The green button maximises and minimises the window’s size

Finder

The icon on the far left of the Dock is the Finder. Use the Finder to navigate and manage your MacBook Pro’s files and applications.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar is a line at the top of the MacBook Pro’s screen.

With the Menu Bar, you can

 • see recent work
 • view and adjust settings and applications
 • end applications
 • interact with a programme
 • log in and out
 • put the MacBook Pro into sleep mode
 • begin restart
 • switch off your MacBook Pro

Customising desktop

To customise Desktop, select the System Preferences icon in the Dock or Apple>System Preferences on the Menu Bar. For more details of what you can do, select Mac Help and search for System Preferences or for the item you want to change.

5) Connectivity

Your MacBook Pro has a comprehensive range of ports for printers, phones, iPods, cameras, joysticks, hard drives and so on. As well as USB 2.0 ports, you have a FireWire 400 and a FireWire 800. These are ideal for connecting high speed devices such as video cameras.

The DVI port allows you to connect a monitor, TV or projector. If you have a VGA device, then simply use the supplied DVI/VGA adaptor.

Use the audio line in/optical digital audio in port to connect digital audio equipment or a microphone. Use the headphone out/optical digital audio out port for audio equipment, headphones or speakers.

The ExpressCard/34 slot accepts all standard 34mm ExpressCards. Please note that when you want to remove a card, push it gently first.

6) Battery

When you use the MacBook Pro without the MagSafe Power Adaptor, the time you can run the computer depends on your applications and the peripheral devices that are draining the battery’s power. You can save battery energy by removing unnecessary devices and by switching off your AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth® features when you’re not using them.

Press the button on the battery to check the energy level. The lights at the side of the button tell you how much charge you have left, if any. You can also inspect the battery level by simply checking the battery status icon in the Menu Bar.

The battery can be charged at any time. You’ll find you can charge it more quickly, however, when your MacBook Pro is in sleep mode or switched off.

If you want to replace a failing battery with a full charged one, always shut down your MacBook Pro first.

The Offbeat Music of Peru

Posted under Bar

RAFAEL entered the hallway and sank into a chair. We’ve been recording for hours and I’ve never had a session like it, he said. Instead of just sitting down and playing the usual accompaniment, I spent the entire afternoon trying to teach the orchestra how to play mountain music.

That shouldn’t be such a task, I said. You are all expert guitarists, and folk music is so simple.

Simple, yes, but have you ever noticed the beat? It’s that beat that gets anyone who hasn’t been raised in the Peruvian mountains.

Well, yes, I’ve noticed that the folk music of Peru is a bit different, but—well, just what is there about the beat?

After every few bars there’s a bar introduced that gets only a fraction of the normal beat. Now this simply isn’t done in music. Any musician knows that a piece of music has just so many bars and each bar a given number of beats, whether it be two, three, four or even more. But not the Peruvian mountain folk music.

Now, just a minute, I said. I know a little about music and I do know that each bar has to conform to the timing in order to have rhythm. There’s nothing more frustrating than playing or singing a piece of music when each bar is not given full value. Are you telling me that . . .?

That the Peruvian folk music doesn’t give all the bars equal value of beats? Yes. Here, I’ll demonstrate. With that he hummed a tune with which I was familiar, having heard it many times in my four years of teaching in the interior. As he hummed, I noticed that at every fifth bar he stopped short at just half the number of beats. It sounded delightfully normal—for Peruvian music.

Don’t you remember the kind of dances they do to this music? he asked. Here, I’ll refresh your memory. With that Rafael got to his feet, shuffled a few steps while humming the same tune, then stopped short, bringing both feet to a halt in quick succession on the fifth bar, starting in again immediately for the next four bars, only to stop short again on the fifth. How many times I had seen the Indians sing and dance this way! It was fascinating, and so typical. This type of dancing, together with this music—a perfect match.

My mind raced back to the quaint little towns dotting the puna (high, cold, arid plateau) or nestling in the terraced valleys of the Andes. I recalled the scenes of little orchestras at work in the plazas with homemade harps and flutes. Bright, billowing skirts spun into focus revealing sturdy-legged dancers circling opposite their knitted-capped partners. Twirling and stomping to a stop—twirling and stomping to a stop.

Rafael was speaking again. He was explaining that it would be difficult to put this offbeat music into writing, but that nevertheless it was uncomplicated and simple to play. All except the broken bar, that is, for this creates an incredible problem for conventional musicians. Their mental metronome, so to speak, strives to supply the missing beats and equate the rhythm and thus the peculiar offbeat savor of the folkloric music is lost.

Today’s Ancient Inca Music

Peru is divided down its long middle by the high Andes mountain range, keeping communication between the mountain population and that of the coastal strip to a minimum in the centuries before modern transportation facilities. The Inca-inspired mountain music therefore has been preserved in its nearly original state. What seemed a rather curious fact was that, whereas this folk music had failed to infiltrate to any degree into the comparatively nearby coast, it nevertheless penetrated a 2,000-mile length of mountains while undergoing only minor changes from one section to another.

These changes have developed into three regional moods that have come to be recognized today as characteristic music of the northern, central and southern sections of the Peruvian Andes.

To illustrate, if you were a native of the northern mountains, you would like your music gay and lively, and you would be accustomed to dance to it in fast, jumping steps or in marches. You would have grown to love the violin and the locally made harp, the quena (flutelike instrument made of cane), and the guitar strumming its accompanying rhythm.

But, contrariwise, most certainly if the South were your home, you would sway to the melancholy strains of the mandolin and the accordion, rounded out by the twang of the charango and the extra-heavy beat of the big guitarrón as they doled out their sad melodies. Dancing to these mournful ballads, you would be overcome with emotion, tears streaming down your chapped cheeks.

Or if you were raised in the Central Andes region, the land of the saxophones and the clarinets, the harps and the violins, you would delight in the lilting melodies in the popular mood. The distant thumping beat of the cajon (homemade drum) would lure you to the public plaza where you would join hands with the circle of dancers or clap rhythmic accompaniment.

The Offbeat

Although the Indians of the mountains have learned to dance to the waltz that has infiltrated from the coast, the waltz rhythm is practically unknown in the composition of this folk music. The popular two or four beats to the bar is generally phrased into groups of several bars in succession followed by an offbeat bar.

Where the broken bar is interjected varies according to the piece and sometimes varies even within one piece of music. One might, for example, have a piece with the first two bars of four beats each and followed by a bar with just one beat, succeeded immediately by the two bars of four, and then the one beat. This would be repeated throughout the whole piece with scant variation of tune. However, what may be lacking in color and creativity is compensated for by their boundless enthusiasm as they stomp, clap and shout hour after hour to more of the same.

Emotional Outlet

These Indian folk are outwardly unemotional but their music is capable of deep expression and sentiment. One example of this is the slow and melancholy ballads sung at social gatherings to a music called El Triste (the sad one). This is a music for expressing laments and sentimental serenades, and it is the only music where the singer is featured. The soloist, singing in either Spanish or Quechua, is accompanied by a single guitar fingering only the melody. He sings these melancholy tunes with exaggerated sadness, provoking tears of deep emotion in the eyes of all the listeners. It is not uncommon to see little bands of guests grouped around crying freely and unashamedly, a good time being had by all.

Undoubtedly, primitive music is appreciated most by its own natives. But in recent years some orchestral arrangements of this Inca-inspired music have been made for symphony orchestras. Although the offbeat bars have been sacrificed, the prevailing minor tones of the music, played in rich orchestral harmony, are surprisingly beautiful.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis Has Entered the Building!

Posted under Bar

Each summer on Corfu it’s possible to see the ‘King’ perform all his (and your) old favourites one more time. From “Heartbreak Hotel” to “Suspicious Minds”, from “Blue Suede Shoes” to “I Can’t Help Falling in Love”, my good friend Oresti Kovi, Corfu’s Elvis impersonator extraordinaire, dressed to the tens and sporting a pompadour hair style and mutton-chop sideburns, croons the legendary tunes five nights a week with style and penache in packed bars and nightclubs.

Over the past couple of years, Oresti’s Elvis act has become quite an event, and if imitation is the highest form of flattery, then Oresti is flattered by a number of those imitating the imitator: Elvis acts have popped up all over Corfu during the past couple of summers, though it is Oresti’s lively performance that seems to fill the bars and clubs night after night. When one talks about Elvis here on Corfu, we all know who they’re talking about: Oresti Kovi.

Even though this faux Elvis enjoys more than a little recognition these days, it has not always been so for him. Born and raised in Albania, Oresti Kovi came to Corfu fifteen years ago. The means by which he arrived were not only unconventional, but quite extraordinary.

One night, along with four friends, he set out to swim across the straight that separates Corfu from the Albanian mainland. From Kassiopi, one can easily see Oresti’s hometown of Seranda, and on a clear day, one can even see many details, such as individual buildings, the newly constructed landing strip, or a church spire. Indeed, the distance across the straight does not appear to be long, and in fact it is only about four miles from shore to shore. As the five young, fit men in their early twenties entered the water that night, they must have thought the swim would be an easy one, and that they would soon be celebrating their arrival on Corfu. Sadly, only two of the five survived the waters that night.

Fifteen years ago, the advantages of living in Greece, as opposed to living in Albania, were more than obvious, not only to Oresti, but to many Albanians who left their Homes and came to live in Greece, particularly here on Corfu. These days it is estimated that there are no fewer than five thousand native Albanians living on the island, and that figure may indeed be too low. Living here on Corfu, one is certain to make the acquaintance of any number of Albanian ex-pats. I myself know many. And while it certainly was true fifteen years ago that the disparity in quality of life on these two not-so-distant shores was, shall we say, world’s apart, my friend Oresti tells me that today he’s not so sure anymore that Greece offers the promise and economic advantage that he was once willing to risk his life to sample.

Oresti’s history on Corfu has been both a varied and colourful one. During his first years spent on Corfu, he worked during the tourist season as a waiter. He never earned much money waiting tables, and when winter came, he searched out odd jobs to survive. Such a scenario is the rule rather than the exception for many if not most Albanian immigrants to Corfu. My friend Cosmos, for example, (also Albanian and a longtime resident of Corfu), is part of a troupe of Greek dancers that performs aboard cruise ships all during the summer season, but during winter this very talented, and very spirited, young man survives by picking up painting jobs when he can. On any day in San Rocco Square in Corfu Town, one can see scores of young Albanian men gathered there to sell their labour to anyone willing to give them a day’s work, and the rate at which they are paid is nothing less than pathetic. Though their presence is tolerated here on Corfu, these young men are reduced to a class only slightly better than slaves, usually doing the hard physical labour that their Greek hosts and employers would rather not do themselves, or pay the going rate to a Greek workman. Besides being condemned to live as economic outcasts, Albanian immigrants on Corfu all too often suffer prejudicial stereotyping, if not outright verbal abuse. To say the least, life is not everything these immigrants had hoped it might be; on the contrary, many have grown bitter, or returned to their native country, humble though it may still be.

The winter that I first met Oresti Kovi, he had not yet begun doing his Elvis act. In truth, that winter we were both broke as a joke, and he and his girlfriend Teresa would come round to our apartment to visit Kelly and me. We shared simple meals as we schemed about how to survive until spring. It was during those visits that I learned about Oresti’s deep and reverent devotion to Elvis Presley. On weekends, Oresti always sang karaoke at the Navigator’s bar, but only Elvis’s songs. During that same winter, Teresa sewed Oresti’s first Elvis costume–by hand! For our part, Kelly and I helped him, via the Internet, to acquire suitable boots for his costume from a company in Texas. The boots, I remember, arrived just before his inaugural performance that spring.

Several summers have come and gone now, and Oresti has become well established as Corfu’s premier Elvis imitator. He performs at least five nights a week all during summer at several resorts across the island. Seldom is there an empty seat for his performance, and often the street outside the venue where he is playing is crowded with those waiting for a seat inside. Money is also not such a big problem for Oresti these days, as his service is in great demand during the summer tourist season. I try to catch his act at least a couple of times during summer, not so much because I’ll see something I’ve not seen before, but to renew our friendship–one that was forged during tougher times for us both. I not only respect Oresti’s courage and his creativity, I admire his stamina, his courage, and most of all his sincerity. We have become good friends over the years, and I deplore the way many Corfiots treat the Albanians who’ve come here seeking a better future for themselves and their families. Frankly, there is no excuse for it.

Unlike in years passed, Oresti does not stay on Corfu during winter, he returns to Seranda, where his mother still lives. Seldom do I have the opportunity to spend evenings with him scheming or simply sharing dinner, but all in all, his absence is for the best, I suppose. Oresti has invited me to visit him at his home in Seranda. I’ve never been to Albania, but I would like to visit some time. Perhaps I’ll have the opportunity before long. For now, though, we catch up by phone about once each month. When we do meet up again, whether next spring or sooner, I know that our friendship will be instantly renewed, as it was one forged in hardship, and in hope. We share the knowledge that we are both immigrants here, a fact that we never forget, and even as we thank the Corfiots for having us, we deplore the manner in which they treat the Albanians, many of whom have Greek ancestry.

Next time you’re on Corfu, make it a point to see Oresti’s Elvis act. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, because anyone who reveres the ‘King’ as Oresti does, and renders the songs with respect and humility and sincerity, as he certainly does, will certainly win his way into your heart, as he has mine.

Viva Las Vegas, Oresti! And long live the King!

Body Building Through Squats

Posted under Bar

If you have a skinny frame and wish to add some muscles to different sections of your body I would suggest you take squats seriously. Lot of heavy lifters and serious body builders swear by squats and it is known to work the most muscles in your body. About 75% of the muscles in your body will be worked while using the different variations of squat. It is difficult for me to enunciate the exact form which you should develop while working on the squats. If are going to use weights on the bar, which is of course what I would recommend, you should be careful about you form else you will end up hurting yourself.

The squat is definitely the most painful exercise in the body building routing but anything which involves more pain has its gains in the long term. You can not only strengthen you leg muscles and back muscles but will also provide strength to your trunk. Depending upon the squats you are performing it is also possible to add muscles to you neck region and the shoulder region. Make sure you perform high rep squats else the purpose is defeated. if you want to get bigger and more muscular around the entire body there is nothing which will work better than high rep squats.

There are various types of squats which are performed by most body builder and all of them have their advantages. Let me enlist a few of them for you to try out. A word of advice here, make sure you understand the proper form to execute the below squats. Form places a very important role in deciding the muscle regions which get stimulated and also avoid injury, at time major injuries, which result from sloppy form. The different types of squats you can try out as a part of your body building routing are as below

Power lifting squat: This involves placing the bar slightly down the back with a torso lean. The descend is performed in a pattern similar to sitting on a chair and ascend is performed while keeping the bar inline with the ankles. The lower back strength improves to a very high extent.

Front squat: The bar is placed in front parallel to the chest. The bar is supported by crossing the hands across the shoulders. The descend and ascend is similar to the power lifting squat . The torso strength would be the determining factor for the amount of weight you can take up during this squat.

Plie squat: Grasping a single dumbbell take a wide stance and squat down with the dumbbell between your legs. Drive down as far as you possibly can while balancing the dumbbell and ascend once you reach your limit. You will need to do more reps with this squat to increase its effectiveness.

Box squat: This is a slightly different squat from the normal. Here the bar is kept at parallel with the knees while squatting. The bar is placed on the shoulders touching the back portion of the neck. The squats are then performed by sitting on a lower chair or stool, the height of the stool should be till your knees and not more. This exercise works the hamstring muscles.

You can try all of the above squats with empty bar initially till you get your act together and have perfected the form. There might be an initial pain in the shoulder regions but that’s normal don’t let that stop you from carrying on. If possible avoid the usage of manta ray as it would defeat the purpose of strengthening your torso. Make sure you use a powerful rack where you can place the bar only you reach your threshold while performing the reps. You can even perform the squats outdoors so you can drop the bar once your are done with your reps.

Go on now and hit the squat mat!

Piano Lesson: How To Play From A Fake Book

Posted under Bar

A fake book can be a source of many inspiring piano exercises. It contains a lot of melodies written in a concise format that includes only the melody and chord names. Let us take a look at how you can use these melodies to become a better pianist!

First of all we will take a look at how melodies are notated in a fake book. Usually you will find the melody of a song in sheet music notation together with chord suggestions above the notes. This economical way of notating makes it possible to fill a fake book with a lot of melodies.

The advantage of this way of notating melodies is that you can have a fake book as a reference book with a lot of melodies at your disposal.

The drawback is that you do not have a written out arrangement of the song for piano. You have to figure out how to play the song by yourself. Actually this can be an advantage that will help you develop as a pianist letting you interpret the song’s performance as you feel is appropriate.

One little melody in a fake book can give you many exercises in different areas of your piano playing and help you in your development as a musician. Here are a few examples:

1. Learn to play chords together with a melody. For example, play chords with your left hand and melody with your right hand, play bass notes with your left hand and combine melody and chord notes with your right hand, play various combinations of bass notes, chord notes and melody notes with both hands.

2. Learn to find the right chords to use when playing a melody. In a fake book you will find chord suggestions that can easily be supplemented with more chords making the voicings and chord progressions more exciting.

3. Learn to improvise by using the melody as a starting point. This is often called melodic improvisation. You can also use the chords or the fitting scales as a foundation for your improvisation. This is called chordal improvisation and scale improvisation.

4. Learn to play the songs in the piano fake book in different keys thus developing your ability to play by ear and understand the piano keyboard by transposing songs you have learned.

Actually you can use a song in a fake book as the basis for your development as a pianist if your goal is to be a good piano player in the area of improvised piano music.

Let us take an example from a fake book. You have a song of your choice in front of you with melody, chord suggestions and nothing more. What can you do to use this song as a starting point for a piano practice session?

We suppose that the song starts with the chord C-major and then in the next bar you will find the chord F-major. Here are some suggestions on what to practice drawn from these two bars of music.

1. Work on chord voicings. Practice playing C-major triads with your left hand in the three inversions. That means that you play the chord C-major with the three notes involved, C, E and G, in three combinations, that is, CEG, EGC or GCE. Do the same with the chord F-major. Practice also to move from C to F in various combinations.

2. Work on playing the melody in different ways. Single right hand notes, playing right hand octaves, playing the melody with your left hand and chords with your right hand and more.

3. Work on adding more chords. For example, taking the C-chord to F could go via Gm7 and C7 thus creating the following chord sequence, C, Gm7, C7, F. Much can be done to spice the song by adding more chords to the ones in the fake book.

4. Add notes to the chords you use in your song. A C-major chord can easily be substituted with a Cmaj7 chord or a Cmaj9 and you can find more interesting chords if you focus on one chord at a time. Of course you can work on playing these new chords in different combinations and inversions too.

5. Use the song as a foundation for improvisation. Learn a melody passage by heart. Play this passage over and over again with small changes in the melody thus practicing melodic improvisation. Or use the chords. The chord C-major suggests two major scales to use when improvising. You can use a C-major scale or a C-major pentatonic scale for example.

To sum up you can use one single song in a fake book as the basis for piano exercises in many areas of your development as a pianist and at the same time you build up a repertoire with popular melodies for your own benefit and the enjoyment of other people.

Injury Proof Your Workout

Posted under Bar

Fitness should boost your body, not break it down. Most nagging injuries are caused by pressure, friction or tension. Adjust your approach with this guide.

Problem: Burning Eyes from Swimming

Cause: Even if you suction-pumped your goggles to your eye sockets, chlorine-infused water could still infiltrate during your flip turns.

Fix: Before kicking off the wall, squeeze your outstretched arms against your ears and lead with the top of your head. This creates a hole in the water that your body can flow through. You’ll minimize drag and keep your goggles glued down.

Problem: Discomfort from the Squat Bar

Cause: The metal bar, combined with the pressure of the weight and insufficient cushioning can rub the bony vertebra at the base of your neck.

Fix: Position the bar one or two centimeters lower than you usually would, to take pressure off the bony protrusion. If the bar has no padding, wrap a gym towel around it or swop it for a pair of dumbbells.

Problem: Tender Skin after Pull Ups

Cause: The portion of thicker flesh just below your fingers jams beneath the pressure of holding the bar, pinching the flesh with every shift in weight.

Fix: To reduce this kind of skin abuse, slide your hand up to the bar to push the fleshy part down and out of the way so it doesn’t get pinched. Be sure to grip the bar at the crease where your fingers meet your palms, and then wrap your fingers around it.

Problem: Bloody Boxing Knuckles

Cause: Skilled boxers throw punches fast and frequently. But your skin doesn’t always toughen as quickly as your muscles do.

Fix: Build tolerance by hitting the bag harder but less frequently and for shorter time frames. If you usually punch for three minutes at 50 percent strength, say, try one minute at full strength until your knuckles can last longer.

Problem: Tennis Thumb Blisters

Cause: You have those nasty fluid bubbles because you’re gripping your racquet too hard, causing friction between your skin and the handle.

Fix: Relax your hand. You’ll hit with surprisingly greater racquet speed while reducing post-match pain. You can increase your sessions to Nadal-like lengths after your skin has developed tolerance.

Problem: Dead Lift Skin Scrapes

Cause: The rough gripping area of the bar (called the knurling) drags against your legs as you lift, grating your skin.

Fix: Before lift-off, position your shoulders in front of the bar and your shoulder blades directly over the bar. You’ll avoid pulling the bar into your shins, resulting in a cleaner, safer lift.

Work at Home Make Money Free Ways for Internet

Posted under Bar

It probably did not take you more than a second to answer that question—YES! We all want free money, don’t we? But how can we get free money?

Well, if you are looking for free money to use for college and university tuition and fees, you are more likely to find it than those of us who are just looking for free money. Check out websites and programs such as FAFSA and GovernmentGrants.com to find free grant money. You can also check out websites and programs such as FreeCollegeScholarships.net, FastWeb.com, and FedMoney.org that offer free money in the form of scholarships. The great thing about these options is that you are almost guaranteed to get some amount, even if it is not as high as you would like, of free money to use towards your college or university tuition and fees. All you have to do is fill out an application, maybe write an essay or two, and wait.

Now, for the rest of us, free money likely does not exist. There are programs, however, that claim to give you free opportunities to make money such as reading emails or advertisements, taking surveys, downloading a certain tool bar onto your browser, etc. For websites and programs like that check out CashFiesta.com, FreeCenter.com, and AbsolutelyFreebies.com. However, some websites like these require that you pay a registration or startup fee (low, albeit, but still, that is not free, is it?) or fill out all kinds of applications such as for credit cards which can lead to unwanted credit cards, spam in your email, junk in your snail mail, and all kinds of other inconveniences.

So, for those of us not trying to find free money to use for college and university tuition and fees, finding free money is going to be a little more difficult.
